MATINEE: Albert Blank & Nelly Bardelle - Alive and Intimate at the Pinny
ALBERT BLANK at the Fitzroy Pinnacle
Saturday 10th May, 2025 @ 2:30pm
with Nelly Bardelle
Albert Blank writes sharp, satirical indie rock songs with a pop heart and a punk sneer. His debut single, produced by Cry Club’s Jono Tooke and mixed by Aaron Cupples (The Drones, Kirin J Callinan), features members of Moaning Lisa and was spun by Dave Graney on community radio. Think: Elvis Costello covering the Shirelles in a Melbourne sharehouse. Catch him live while the feedback’s still warm.
All socials can be found here, Spotify
Nelly Bardelle marries the gorgeousness of Sufjan Stevens with the complexity of Joanna Newsom, weaving intricate electric guitar through folk melodies, baroque textures, and strange, beautiful chords. This is her debut show. It will be intimate, and it won’t be forgettable.

Olivia's World 'Greedy & gorgeous' Album Tour w/ Sylvia + PROPERTY
Olivia's World (NSW) at the Fitzroy Pinnacle
Saturday 26th April, 2025 @ 8:00pm
with Property and Sylvia
Olivia's World is proud to present their debut full-length album 'Greedy & gorgeous', the band's third release following their two EPs 'Olivia's World' (2019) and 'Tuff 2B Tender' (2021). In 'Greedy & gorgeous', a quasi-concept album about desire, Olivia's World inhabitants deal with the woes of pleasure-seeking and a never-ending quest for beauty.
Join Olivia's World across April & May 2025 as they loudly re-enact their new LP songs across their first proper East Coast Australian tour.
They are joined in Naarm/Melbourne by Sylvia + PROPERTY. With two exquisite EPs executed in the past few years, 'sylvia EP' (2022) and 'EP II' (2024), Sylvia are masterful shoegazers propelled by thick powerpop guitars and romantic ‘90s vocals. FFO Yuck, Velocity Girl, No Sister. Art punk lyricists PROPERTY write distorted, synth-driven lore which have famously given dedicated punters 360-degree neck rotation abilities. FFO Drahla, SLUTEVER, SELF IMPROVEMENT.
Rooted in escapist reality, Olivia's World is a Brisbane via Vancouver via Canberra slacker rock project, now based in Sydney, Australia. Formed in 2017 during a two-year minimum wage sabbatical in Canada's West Coast, Olivia’s World came to fruition after a last-ditch effort for a drummer resulted in the recruitment of frontwoman Alice Rezende’s longtime musical hero–indie pop legend Rose Melberg.
Based in Australia since 2019, Olivia’s World is a conduit for collaboration and has included a rotating roster of musicians. Original members Alice Rezende (Go Violets, Tempura Nights) and Joe Saxby (These Guy, Big Bad Echo) are now joined by Jordan Rodger (TV Colours, Wives, Soft Toy) and Dirk Jonker (Bloods). While 'Greedy & gorgeous' fits snug into the greater Aussie scene–with clear nods, as Canberran music critic Aaron Crowe puts it, to “dolewave pop”–, there’s no denying Olivia’s World’s ability to break the mold. The project still honours their life-long love of vintage twee, all the while charting through their own journey in the fractured squabble of the modern music landscape.

General Mack’s Grapeshot ‘Revel Revel’ Launch
GENERAL MACK'S GRAPESHOT at the Fitzroy Pinnacle
Saturday 12th April, 2025 @ 8:30pm
with Wild Dog Mountain and Tallulah Grace
Tickets via OZTIX
Multi-instrumentalist, singer, songwriter, and producer General Mack’s Grapeshot (GMG)'s debut album Revel, Revel was mixed by local producer Robert Muinos (Didirri, Julia Jacklin, Jess Locke, Nat Vazer), the two connecting over an appreciation for bold mixing selections, and was written, recorded, produced, and performed by McIvor. The album was tracked during excursions to Victoria’s Mornington Peninsula. The space, time, and seclusion allowed hours of experimentation with sounds and recording techniques. There are guitar-drenched moments, familiar with McIvor’s previous work but the accompanying rhythm section is layered with drum loops and applies synth bass and cinematic textures to several songs.
General Mack’s Grapeshot allowed Melbourne multi-instrumentalist Mitchy McIvor to deliver his long-term intention of producing his own music. Having played in numerous bands in Melbourne and LA, including Cannon and Damndogs, Mitchy McIvor drew on the familiar guitar drenched moments from his previous work to create cinematic textures with drum loops and oscillating synth bass. General Mack’s Grapeshot’s draws on dominant production techniques inspired by the works of Beck, The Kills, St Vincent, Danger Mouse, Serge Gainsbourg, and the War on Drugs.

Hannie Journée et le Yé-Yé Nouveau
Hannie Journée et le Yé-Yé Nouveau at the Fitzroy Pinnacle
Sunday 6th April, 2025 @ 2:00pm
with Toby May (UK/Switzerland)
Tickets via OZTIX
60s' French Girl Pop or Classic Australian Songs ... Why Choose? Hannie Journée et le Yé-Yé Nouveau present a charming mash-up of the Australian Songbook sung in French, in the timeless style of 60s' French Yé-Yé pop.
It all began when Hannie Journée (Hannie Day) was playing her father (Greg Arnold - Things of Stone and Wood) some yé-yé songs as they drove across France and he noted that it shared a vibe with The Easybeats, and from there came the light bulb moment ... why choose? Why not put those OZ-French vibes together? So, on April 6 at The Fitzroy Pinnacle, they will debut the idea in gig form.
Joined by Luci Floyd on BVs and Vocals (Gush) and Luke Singleton on Drums (Are Drummers Musicians?), it will be one-part indie super group, one-part French chic quartet and one-part good old daggy family band!
There'll be dancing, there'll be classic songs that will surprise in their nouveau context but ultimately, there'll be fun, fun, fun, or as we always say ... Le Fun (or at least what we say, once, in our press release) Seeya there, Nos Amis!

Hailing from Tasmania, Maeve’s debut EP, Midnight Commute, released on November 13, 2024, explores personal and universal themes such as journeys, change, and the quiet longing of the night. The four-track EP weaves intricate guitar arrangements with thought-provoking, narrative-driven songwriting. Drawing inspiration from icons like Madison Cunningham, Blake Mills, and Adrianne Lenker, Maeve’s music is rich with texture while remaining undeniably accessible.

Mikelangelo & his Long Lost Friends
Mikelangelo & his Long Lost Friends at the Fitzroy Pinnacle
14th March, 2025 @ 8:00pm
"A charismatic maestro...vivid storytelling" - The Age One of the true mavericks of Australian music. Mikelangelo is the alter-ego of Michael Simic. From The Old Bar in Fitzroy to the Sydney Opera House to London’s West End, he has packed houses and garnered accolades as a solo performer and with his long-term band Mikelangelo and the Black Sea Gentlemen, releasing 15 independent albums and building a worldwide following.
"Part Elvis, part New Romantic, part storyteller" - Time Out (UK) Way back in 1996, Simic established a music venue in Melbourne with his family – The Truffula Tree – and that venue is now The Pinnacle. After a long time away, the prodigal son returns to play The Pinny with his new band Mikelangelo and the Long Lost Friends.
"Gloriously hilarious, musically astonishing and emotionally heart-punching" - Arts Hub
The Pinnacle, it’s original incarnation as the Truffula Tree, was where Mikelangelo first took to the stage. For this special ‘homecoming’ show, Simic has pressed a limited run of the first Mikelangelo solo album – Lost Recordings – which was in part recorded after hours at The Truffula Tree in 1999 by Matt Hills, and completed at his Happy Valley studios, then located in Preston. The album has been unavailable for some years, and this collector’s edition will be hand numbered, with each cover featuring hand inked original artwork by Simic.
"Mikelangelo weaves a seductive spell around the audience...loved every minute” - The List (UK)
Mikelangelo & the Long Lost Friends will be playing songs from Lost Recordings, along with a cross section of Mikelangelo classics, and a swag of new material. This promises to be an unforgettable show of powerful music and wild tales from a previous era of Melbourne music. Opening the night will be magic realist folk noir duo Anushka in the Woods, with Anna Simic on vocals and Dave Evans on accordion and piano.

Sam Wrangle (QLD)
Sam Wrangle (QLD) at the Fitzroy Pinnacle
Saturday 15th February, 2025 @ 8:30pm
with Potluck and Video Life
Originally a bedroom pop project, Sam Wrangle has since expanded into a collaborative trio for casual shows, and quartet for more formal ones. Some songs are written by Sam, and others have been jammed extensively – fully harnessing the accomplished musicianship of drummer Sandro Abate, bassist Tom Anderson, and rhythm guitarist Geoff Wilson (The Melancholics). Musically, they have been compared to The Police, Red Hot Chili Peppers, and The Cure.
Potluck is band after its name - friends and flavours from all backgrounds coming together to create a scrumptious musical buffet featuring savoury harmonies, sweet melodies, and cup-filling songwriting. Inspired by rock and pop classics, their songs will have you humming by the end!
Formed in Melbourne in early 2024, Video Life have been described as both genre-defying and tight. They sing songs about an early 2000s Canberra which may no longer exist. Video Life’s first single “Dane” was released in November 2024 with an EP to come in 2025.
